John L. Clarke

John L. Clarke, our senior writer, is based out of Chicago, IL. He grew up in the Glen Ellyn, IL after living in Colorado and Florida, respectively. John excelled in many sports growing up, but really got the football “bug” his freshman year at Glenbard South High School. After having success at multiple positions, he found a niche as a Free Safety in which he was awarded Glen Ellyn All-Area in 1996 and Honorable Mention All-Area in 1995. During the 1995 season, he was awarded the DuPage Valley Conference (DVC) Sportsmanship Award as well as being placed on the “Defensive Player of the Year Watch List” for underclassman before the 1996 season by the “Glen Ellyn News”.

John L. ClarkeHis senior campaign saw John captain the Raiders to their first playoff berth in 19 years. During the season, he recorded 5 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles (2 recovered) and was 3rd on the team with 57 tackles despite missing 3 games while recovering from surgery on a torn calf muscle. He was also placed on the Honorable Mention list for the 4A Playoff All Star team as he had a game winning interception, 4 passes broken up, 2 forced fumbles and lead his team in tackles in 2 Playoff games.

He was named “Daily Herald Defensive Player of the Week” during the first round playoff victory vs. Pontiac High School.

His high school career garnered attention from multiple colleges, offering a chance to play NCAA football. After selecting Millikin University (Decatur, IL), John was moved to cornerback. Millikin won 2 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Championships after a 14 year drought. He was named captain of the JV team his freshman (1997) and sophomore (1998) seasons before missing his junior year with 2 torn ligaments in his ankle and knee, respectively. He took that year and was assistant coach for the Defensive Backs (DB’s), focusing on helping the freshman DB’s adjust to the level of Division III competition. His senior year saw Millikin go to the playoffs vs. perennial powerhouse Ohio Northern (Ada, OH).

John started writing in high school, submitting sports articles on various athletic squads to the school newspaper, “The Raider Times”. That led into his decision to write for his college newspaper, “The Decaturian” (The Dec), in which he was not only the sports columnist for the Football and Wrestling teams, but also had a Features column as well. During his senior year, he was appointed Co-Editor of the sports section, which won several local awards. He graduated from Millikin University in 2001 with a degree in Communication (Marketing emphasis) with minors in English Journalism and English Literature.

John started writing for NFL Draft Dog in December 2006 and has done player profiles, mock drafts, All-American teams and has contributed to many of the blogs written by other NFL Draft Dog writers. Recently completed a post draft report on the Baltimore Ravens.
